Moses played a vital role in helping his team win the 2022 NBA Championship.

A Little Rock native, Moses Moody is a former Arkansas Razorback and now plays for the Golden State Warriors.

What was the most challenging financial habit you had to learn when you jumped from college basketball to the NBA?

“The most challenging part of acclimating financially to the next level is learning the difference between what a good and bad investment looks like, even from the paperwork,” Moses said.

What is the No. 1 financial habit you think students should start practicing NOW before they enter the workforce or college system as young adults?

“Budgeting is easily the top priority from an early age,” Moses said. “It’s not hard to do, and that way you just know where your money is going. You can add whatever you want to your budget. It’s just about planning.”

What is one thing you wish the Arkansas school system had taught you about managing finances as an adult? What can students reading this article learn from you about what you had to learn the hard way?

“I wish I would have learned the financial vocabulary earlier because it’s important to understand and be a part of the dialogue around your money and where it goes,” Moses said.

What financial advice do you have for students in Arkansas who need to learn more about financial literacy?

“I would just emphasize how important financial literacy is no matter your circumstances,” Moses said. “It truly  just makes life easier and helps you to elevate yourself, regardless of if you have a lot of money or not.”

What surprised you the most about being financially responsible as a young adult?

“I’ve always liked to save money and placed a high level of importance on it, so learning to spend money to make money was interesting,” Moses said.
