Meet The Pro: Reagan Batty, Time Keeper

Reagan Batty began working for McGeorge Contracting in August 2022 at 21 years old. At first, she was unsure if this was going to be a long-term career for her – but after working with a supportive and knowledgeable team, she was ready to continue learning from those around her. Reagan felt prepared for this career after competing on several sports teams in high school, including softball, cheerleading, basketball and track; working as a lifeguard and participating in FBLA.

“Each of these experiences taught me that it takes a strong team to do a job well, and my individual role in that team is important in that process,” Reagan said. “I believe I am more resilient and flexible at work because of these experiences as well.”

Climbing the ladder, Reagan began as an office assistant and worked her way up to being a field service technician. Now, she’s working as a time keeper (similar to human resources) – all without having a college degree! Combined with the skills she’s naturally acquired, her on-the-job training and her eagerness to learn – Reagan has accomplished so many career goals.

“This route allowed me to get paid while learning a variety of skills that you don’t get from a college degree,” Reagan said. “I think I have gained more life experience in this nontraditional educational route than most.”

Not only does Reagan have a growing retirement fund at 23 years old, but she’s also been able to pay for her own home and car. She contributes financially to her local church, too. While most people her age are just graduating college with student loan debt, she’s able to be financially stable.

“Trade careers make the world go round, and it's rewarding to know you played a part in the long run," she said, emphasizing the opportunities for females like her to thrive in this typically male-dominated field.

"If you are interested in [this career], find an opportunity to shadow or intern and get involved.”
