Why did you choose this major?
Cole: My interest in filmmaking started when I was about 8 working as a model, but it wasn’t until I had a part in a commercial that I saw a film set. That’s when I knew I wanted to work behind a camera for life.

Zac: Because I love movies.

What do you love most about the film program at UCA?
Zac: The teachers in the program are really awesome, and most of them are still active filmmakers. Plus, the equipment you get to use is fantastic.

What are your film classes like?
Cole: Every week or two, our professor gives us a new task to create a story and go shoot a short film. Then, when we’re all done, we come together as a class and watch everyone’s projects.

How do you want to use your major after graduation?
Cole: My ultimate goal is to own my own production studio. I want to have a place where not only I can shoot films and tell stories, but also a place where I can make it possible for other people to as well.

Zac: I want to have a production company, direct comedy movies and possibly start a stuntman company.

What experience do prospective filmmaking students need?
Cole: As important as film classes are, the connections that you make and the dedication that you have to your craft are 10 times more valuable. In fact, some of the best opportunities around are right here in Little Rock. I highly recommend volunteering with the Little Rock Film Festival (LRFF).

Zac: You should watch more movies; watch movies you don’t want to watch, old movies, new movies and in every genre there is.

Advice for high school students considering filmmaking:
Cole: Nowadays anyone can get their hands on an HD camera and shoot high-quality video. The only thing stopping you is you. Go to film festivals, go to film forums and most importantly just start shooting!

Zac: Make a film idea journal and write down any movie ideas you get throughout the day.
