Meet an MD: Corey Montgomery
By Lydia McAllister on Friday, September 25, 2020
The medical field was always in the cards for Corey Montgomery, but originally he had his sights set on treating animals instead of humans. He grew up on a farm and was able to help his family with animal care. But in high school, his interactions with the family’s doctor drew him into medicine.
Today, Corey works as one of only two orthopedic oncologists in Arkansas. Orthopedic oncology is a subspecialty in orthopedic medicine that specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of various tumors of bones, soft tissues and musculoskeletal nerves. Corey cares for both children and adults with bone and soft-tissue alignments that require surgical care. While it’s a very demanding job, Corey says for him, it’s his amazing patients that inspire him to show up and do his best work every day.
What’s a surprising aspect of your job?
“How much I get to build and reconstruct the human body using my hands.”
